UHS-VU Football Club
UHSVU is a local football club located in Parkville.
The club began as the University High School Old Boys in 1932 and have played in the VAFA since inception. 2007 sees the club entering its 75th year, making it one of the oldest football clubs in the VAFA.
The club recently formed an alliance with Victoria University to offer an attractive option to VU students wishing to play local footy.
In 2006 we also developed an affiliation with the Flemington Junior Football Club to offer local junior footballers an opportunity to continue their playing careers through to a senior level.
Where do we play?
UHSVU plays and trains at Brens Oval, in Parkville in heart of Melbourne’s inner north. The oval is located on Macarthur road, in Royal Park directly in front of Melbourne Zoo.
We are ideally located for residents of Parkville, North Melbourne, Kensington/Flemington, Carlton and Brunswick.
We are also home to many students from the nearby Melbourne, Monash (Pharmacy), RMIT (City) and Victoria Universities. Public transport allows for a 10 minute trip to training for our workers from the city, or a very cheap taxi-ride back into the city after one of our social functions. This location combined with direct access onto Citylink, Tullamarine and the Eastern freeways makes us possibly the most accessible local club in Melbourne.
Ground and Facilities
Our facilities are first-rate with a large ground located in the picturesque Royal Park, which has automated watering to ensure a quality surface all year.
A lighting upgrade has been installed, improving the training ability and possibly providing an opportunity to play evening games.
The change-rooms are large enough to allow indoor training activities and include a well equipped gym with weights and boxing equipment. Our affiliation with Victoria University also allows free access to the extensive gym and indoor pool facilities at the uni. The club employs 3 trainers and a physiotherapist to assist with injury management and player recovery.
The social rooms at UHSVU rank with the best in the VAFA. The room overlooks the playing arena and features a fully stocked bar managed by professional bar staff and can cater for up to 150 diners at club functions.
Our Teams
Seniors
The seniors play in section D4 of the VAFA.
The VAFA is the largest, most professionally managed competition in Victoria outside of the AFL and VFL, and is comprised of approximately 70 clubs.
The VAFA competition is a well-controlled clean competition with many ex-professional and representative players participating. Games are played hard and competitively with a few beers after the game being a tradition. All games are on the traditional Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
Reserves
The reserves play before the seniors at 11:40am, this team gives an opportunity to younger players still learning the game, as well as those that place more emphasis on the social side of the football club.
Under 18s
This team is affiliated with Flemington Juniors Football club and plays in the WRFL U18B competition.
The under 18s play home games at 9:40am at the Brens and away games are at the same time, with venues varying.
